Below are updates on approved community-led construction projects that are at step 2 and beyond of the Community-led Projects framework. Residents with questions about projects can reach out to the listed team members.

Whitewater Lake Park Improvements

Ward: 4

Phase: Step 2 - Concept and Planning

Description: Café Heritage has proposed a new pavilion at Whitewater Lake Park to be used for community events and concerts.  The capital improvements would enhance Café Heritage programming and events.

Wanup Playground

Ward: 9

Phase: Step 2 - Concept and Planning  

Description: The Wanup Community Builders and the Wanup Community Health and Recreation Subcommittee are fundraising to build a new playground in Wanup. The location of the proposed playground is on Highway 537 in Wanup. Corporate sponsorship and fundraising are required for the completion of this project. Reach out to the Wanup Community Health and Recreation Subcommittee to get involved.

Westmount Outdoor Rink Resurfacing

Phase: Step 3 - Final proposal and fundraising

Description: The Westmount Neighbourhood Association is fundraising to resurface its outdoor rink for year-round usage. Corporate sponsorship and fundraising is required for the completion of this project. Reach out to the Westmount Neighbourhood Association to get involved.

Penman Playground Multi-sport Surface

Ward: 7

Phase: Step 3 - Final proposal and fundraising

Description: The Penman Playground Association is fundraising to create a multi-sport year-round surface for the community to enjoy. The multi-use surface will support the following:

  • An outdoor rink for skating and hockey
  • Basketball and pickleball courts

Lo-Ellen Park Revitalization

Ward: 10

Phase: Step 3 - Final proposal and fundraising

Description: The Lo-Ellen Park Neighbourhood Association, Rainbow District School Board and Sudbury Community Foundation are coming together to revitalize Lo-Ellen Park. The Lo-Ellen Park Revitalization will consist of:

  • Resurfacing existing tennis and basketball courts – to be completed in September 2023
  • Creating a new paved outdoor rink that will also be used for activities like pickleball and basketball in the spring and summer months
