City of Greater Sudbury and CUPE 4705 Outside Unit Reach Tentative Agreement

Aug 9, 2023

After a marathon meeting that began at 9 a.m. Tuesday, the bargaining teams for the City of Greater Sudbury and the CUPE 4705 Outside Unit have reached a tentative collective bargaining agreement. Therefore, there will be no work stoppage.

“After a total of 20 days at the table, I am proud to announce the bargaining teams have signed a tentative agreement for our outside unit workers that meets the needs of our residents and improves work/life balance for our employees,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre. “Thank you to our staff and to our union partners for the time and diligence that has gone into this process. I look forward to continuing our valuable work for the greater good of the residents of this community.”

As next steps, the CUPE executive team will hold ratification meetings with their membership. Until the deal is ratified, and to respect the process CUPE will use to consult with their membership, we will not provide details of the agreement at this time. We look forward to the ratification of this agreement.

The terms of the agreement will be presented to City Council in Closed Session, as permitted under the Municipal Act, on August 15, 2023.
