City of Greater Sudbury Winter Operations Update

Dec 15, 2017

City of Greater Sudbury crews and equipment continue to improve road conditions following the first major snowstorm of the winter on Tuesday.

Crews are taking advantage of slightly warmer temperatures today to salt major arterial and collector routes. Road salt requires temperatures of at least minus 12 degrees Celsius in order to be effective. It is anticipated that with milder temperatures main roads will return to bare/track bare conditions more rapidly.

Residential and rural roads are plowed to snow packed conditions when accumulations reach 8 cm and sanded as needed on icy sections.

City crews are deployed to major arterial and collector roads at the start of a winter event. All municipal roads are plowed on a continuous basis during winter storms. Motorists are reminded to reduce speed and to increase stopping and following distances.
