Residents Reminded Yard Vegetation Growth Limit Now in Effect

Jun 9, 2023

Residents are reminded that the Cleaning of Yards bylaw limits the height of grass, weeds and other lawn vegetation to 20 cm beginning June 1 of each year.

Vegetation maintenance and height limits are in effect from June 1 to December 1 to reduce health and safety hazards within the community.

In March, the City updated the bylaw to support pollinators by allowing vegetation to grow taller during the early spring when fewer edible species and flowering plants are available.

Pollinators contribute to a healthy ecosystem and are critical in the production of locally grown food.

The City of Greater Sudbury recognizes the importance of protecting and enhancing our food system, ecosystem and overall sustainability and resilience by supporting initiatives such as the Greater Sudbury Food Strategy, Biodiversity Plan, Community Energy and Emissions Plan, and EarthCare Sudbury Action Plan.
