Nelson Street Pedestrian Bridge Replacement
Nelson Street Pedestrian Bridge Replacement in 2024
The existing pedestrian bridge located over the railway tracks east of the Bridge of Nations (Paris Street bridge) is scheduled for replacement in 2024. Replacement work will widen the bridge to three metres, which will provide adequate room for both pedestrians and cyclists.
The replacement of the structure will require full closure of the bridge for approximately four months, meaning no access will be provided to cross at Nelson St. for the full duration of construction which is anticipated to occur between May and August 2024.
Pedestrians will be detoured to the nearest crossing at the Bridge of Nations on Paris Street. Alternatively, pedestrians may use the underground tunnel located at the corner of Riverside Drive and Worthington Crescent, which connects to Elgin Street.
No major vehicle traffic impacts are anticipated, and Elgin Street, Edmund Street and Nelson Street will remain open during construction.
