Wyloo has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the City of Greater Sudbury to secure a parcel of land to build a downstream battery materials processing facility. The new facility will fill a critical gap in Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) battery supply chain by establishing Canada’s first mine-to-precursor cathode active material (pCAM) integrated solution.

The City Council meeting on May 28 included the presentation of the Roadmap to End Homelessness by 2030, annual updates from the Accessibility Advisory Panel and the Downtown Sudbury BIA and an update on provincial funding for community housing.

The City of Greater Sudbury is developing a Sustainable Waste Strategy to guide how the City will manage waste for the next 10 years.

In advance of the provincial shift in responsibility for Blue Box system from municipalities to producers of the materials, the City of Greater Sudbury will end Blue Box distribution beginning May 24, 2024.

The City Council meeting on May 14 included an update on changes to Blue Box distribution and discussion of several members’ motions.

Throughout all sectors, Greater Sudbury experienced remarkable growth in 2023.

The residential sector continues to see strong investment in new and renovated multi-unit and single-family dwellings. Throughout 2023, the combined value of permits for new and renovated residential projects was $213.5 million, resulting in 675 units of new housing, the highest annual number in the last five years.

Thanks to the hard work of community volunteers, in partnership with the City of Greater Sudbury and Lopes Limited, a new greenhouse now complements a community garden in Ward 8. 

The Sudbury Landfill scales will undergo a major rehabilitation this spring and summer from May 13 to July 31, 2024. These repairs will ensure continued landfill service delivery.
 

Modified community housing units are available within Greater Sudbury for both residents on the Housing Services centralized wait list and market renters.

The City of Greater Sudbury is pleased to welcome more 250 delegates to town for the 2024 Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities Conference (FONOM). 

As part of Emergency Preparedness Week from May 5 to 11, 2024, the City of Greater Sudbury will test its Sudbury Alerts emergency notification system. The test will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024.

The City Council meeting on April 30 included an update on next steps for the Cultural Hub at Tom Davies Square, an update from the Mayor’s 30x30 Task Force and a celebration of the Greater Sudbury Cubs, Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League champions.

The City of Greater Sudbury has successfully completed its Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) initiative, a multi-year project to replace and upgrade the water meters in every home and business in the city.
