Online Voting Now Open for 2026 Municipal and School Board Election
Oct 16, 2026
As of 10 a.m. today, online voting for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections is open. Greater Sudbury voters can cast their ballot online at any time from any computer, tablet or smartphone until 8 p.m. on Monday, October 26.
To vote online, voters must have their Voter Information Letter (VIL), which they should have received in the mail. The VIL contains the link to the online voting system and a unique Personal Identification Number (PIN). Voters will use the PIN and their date of birth to access the online voting system.
If you did not receive a VIL, you can still vote:
• Visit a Citizen Service Centre or One Stop Services at Tom Davis Square up until the close of voting on Election Day to have a new or replacement VIL issued to you; or
• Visit any in-person voting location on Election Day (October 26) or an advance voting day (October 17 or 24) to check your information on the voters’ list, make any updates or have a new or replacement VIL issued to you.
Advance Voting
Advance paper ballot voting will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2026, and Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following four locations:
• Centennial Community Centre and Arena, 4333 Centennial Dr., Hanmer
• Chelmsford Community Centre and Arena, 215 Edward Ave., Chelmsford
• George Armstrong Community Centre and Arena, 100 Church St., Garson
• Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex, 235 Countryside Dr., Sudbury
Election Day
On Election Day, Monday, October 26, there will be 27 voting locations open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. A list of voting locations was included with your VIL and can also be found here: www.greatersudbury.ca/voting-locations/
The City uses a “vote anywhere” method for paper ballot voting, which means you can attend whichever location is most accessible and convenient for you in Greater Sudbury.
To help residents get to a voting location, GOVA Transit will provide free service on all routes during voting hours on Monday, October 26.
What You Need to Vote
If you are voting in person, bring an acceptable piece of identification. For a list of options, visit www.greatersudbury.ca/elections/for-voters and click on “Acceptable Forms of Voting ID”. To make the voting process faster, bring your VIL.
Reminder about Duplicate VILs
It is possible for some voters to receive more than one VIL. Only one VIL is needed to vote, and under the Municipal Elections Act, a voter may vote only once in a municipality. Voting more than once is an offence and may result in penalties.
If you receive more than one VIL, keep the one that most accurately matches your identification. Then take one of the following steps for the duplicate letter:
• Dispose of it
• Print ‘Duplicate – Return to Sender’ on it and drop it in any Canada Post mailbox
• Bring it with you when you go to vote and give it to an election official
• Take it to any Greater Sudbury Citizen Service Centre or the One Stop Services counter located in Tom Davis Square during regular business hours until the close of voting on Election Day
