City Tests Sudbury Alerts System May 8, Marking Emergency Preparedness Week

The City of Greater Sudbury will test its Sudbury Alerts emergency notification system at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025. The test is part of Emergency Preparedness Week, running May 4 to 10, 2025.
This national campaign raises awareness about emergency readiness. This year's provincial theme is "Plan for Every Season," encouraging residents to prepare for seasonal risks.
Throughout Emergency Preparedness Week, the City will share tips on knowing local risks, making an emergency plan,, and building a 72-hour kit. Learn more about personal preparedness at www.greatersudbury.ca/beprepared.
Residents are encouraged to sign up for Sudbury Alerts or to verify and update their existing account. Please ensure all contact information, location details and language preferences are complete and accurate to receive the most relevant notifications. Visit www.greatersudbury.ca/sudburyalertsto register or update your information. The details provided are protected and used solely for emergency notifications.
During the test on May 8:
- If your home or business has a publicly listed phone number, you will receive a test notification call.
- If you have signed up via the City's website for alerts by text, email, TTY or mobile number, you will receive the test notification through those channels.
- The incoming voice call will display as 705-805-9360. Consider adding this to your contacts as "Sudbury Alerts."
- Text notifications will come from 89362 or 89364.
- The message will be clearly identified with the word "TEST."
- Please follow the instructions carefully. Do not call 311 or 911.
- If an actual emergency occurs, the message will not say "TEST" but will provide specific details and instructions.
Sudbury Alerts provides timely information specific to Greater Sudbury residents during local emergencies such as extreme weather, hazardous material spills, wildfires, train derailments or potential air quality issues. The system delivers crucial messages, including potential shelter-in-place instructions or directions for obtaining more information. Messages are available in English or French.
Sudbury Alerts is a partnership between the City of Greater Sudbury, Vale, Glencore, Greater Sudbury Police Service, Greater Sudbury Utilities and Public Health Sudbury & Districts.
Please note: Sudbury Alerts is separate from the national Alert Ready system. Alert Ready is scheduled for a Canada-wide test on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 12:55 p.m.. No signup is needed for Alert Ready.
About Sudbury Alerts
The City of Greater Sudbury, in partnership with Vale, Glencore, Greater Sudbury Police Services, Greater Sudbury Utilities and Public Health Sudbury & Districts, launched Sudbury Alerts in February 2017. This notification system alerts residents of potential hazards or concerns considered an imminent threat to public safety. The system allows residents to receive emergency alerts on their home phone, cell phone, TTY service, fax number or email address.
