City of Greater Sudbury to take part in Communities in Bloom
Jul 5, 2024
The City of Greater Sudbury has entered into the provincial Communities in Bloom competition for 2024.
A volunteer jury of trained professionals from Communities in Bloom will evaluate Greater Sudbury on the community’s accomplishments in six key areas:
• Community Appearance
• Environmental Action
• Heritage Conservation
• Tree Management
• Landscape
• Plant and Floral Displays.
“As Mayor, I’m pleased that we are entering this year’s Communities in Bloom competition,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre. “This is a unique opportunity to nurture our community pride, showcase the collective efforts that go into keeping our city looking beautiful, and share our experiences in regreening and conservation. We look forward to welcoming the judges in August and receiving the results in the fall.”
The competition's in-person judging will take place on August 13 and 14, with Communities in Bloom judges receiving a tour of Greater Sudbury from City staff. This tour will take the judges through key parts of Greater Sudbury that showcase our excellence in the judging categories.
Residents can take part in the Communities in Bloom competition in the following ways:
Photo Contest
Residents, community groups and businesses are invited to participate by submitting photos that celebrate Greater Sudbury’s green spaces, landscapes, community engagement and neighbourhoods. Three participants who submit photos will be chosen at random to receive a prize pack, and for their home/street to be included on the judging tour in August. For full contest details and to submit your photo, visit overtoyou.greatersudbury.ca/CiB. The contest will run from July 5 to 17, 2024.
Community Clean-Up
Residents are invited to help clean-up their communities by participating in a One-Time Clean-Up Event. For more information and to register your group, visit www.greatersudbury.ca/cleanup.
The final Communities in Bloom evaluation will be announced at a provincial ceremony in October 2024, where all cities who participated will receive a bloom rating, and up to two cities will be invited to the national competition the following year.
