Lead Sampling Program
In 2007, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment implemented a regulation requiring municipalities to regularly test water in households and businesses for lead.
Please note, that sampling is conducted exclusively within the Sudbury Drinking Water System.
Properties built before 1960 are most at risk of lead exposure and can apply for free testing. Testing occurs twice a year: from December to April and June to October, conducted by a licensed water operator.
What to expect during your appointment:
Inspections typically take about an hour and are scheduled by appointment. The water runs for five minutes, then sits for 30 minutes before the two samples are taken. During this 30-minute waiting period, the operator will stay in the house to ensure that no water is used from any tap. Operators will need direct access to household taps for testing. Please note, municipal workers will always carry accredited identification and will never sell, install, or modify household plumbing.
