Special Priority or Urgent Status
Special Priority Placement
A member of the household whose personal safety or that of their family is at risk because of abuse by another individual or because of human trafficking may be entitled to special priority status placement on the wait list.
If you believe this is the case for your situation:
- Complete the Request for Special Priority form found in the Special Priority Package (PDF, 413 KB). Victims of Abuse must provide documentation verifying they resided with the abusive individual in the three months prior to the request. Victims/survivors of trafficking must provide documentation verifying they have been trafficked in the three months prior to the request for Special Priority Placement.
- Provide a Confirmation of Abuse form found in the Special Priority Package (PDF, 413 KB) and include documentation or a letter of support to verify the abuse or trafficking occurred.
Urgent Status
You may qualify for urgent status placement on the wait list if you meet one of the following criteria:
- You have no permanent address and live in a hostel/shelter or on the street,
- Your home has been destroyed by fire or natural disaster,
- Your home has been condemned by the municipality, and you have an Order of the Court or the Landlord and Tenant Board to vacate,
- You currently live in an institution (hospital, long-term care facility) and you cannot be released until suitable housing is found, or
- Your child/children are at risk of apprehension or will not be returned by a child protection agency due to inadequate housing.
If you want to request urgent status
- Fill out the Request for Urgent Status form found in the Urgent Status Package (PDF, 603 KB) explaining your situation in detail. If you are homeless, please explain why you cannot return to your previous accommodations.
- Fill out the Confirmation of Urgent Status form found in the Urgent Status Package (PDF, 603 KB) and include a letter of support to verify your situation.
