Subsidized Summer Programs for School Age Children 2026

Subsidized Summer Programs for School Age Children 2026

Summer is a perfect time for children to be active, make new friends, learn new skills and have fun. The Children Services section is here to help you plan a great summer for your children at licensed child care centres and approved recreation programs which offer high-quality, full-day programs in English and French in neighbourhoods throughout Greater Sudbury.

Families with low and moderate incomes can apply for a child care subsidy to help pay for summer care in licensed child care and approved day camps. Find out more about eligibility on our child care subsidy pages.

Families who are eligible for a child care subsidy can sign up for full-time programs for their children, regardless of the parents' work or school status. This will help more children have a positive, active summer full of fun and adventure.

Subsidized Recreation Options for Summer Care for Ages 4 to 12

How to register for subsidized summer camps:

1. Review the camps being offered by City of Greater Sudbury approved recreation providers

Determine the weeks you would like to attend.

2. Apply for fee subsidy:

a.           New subsidy applicants can apply for financial support through Children Services’ online application form. Once your application is completed (including the uploading of the required documentation), a Children Services representative will contact you to complete intake and determine eligibility.

Note: When applying online, you can choose only one camp, but you may request other camps when completing the intake appointment with your representative.

b.            Current subsidy clients can email feesudbury@greatersudbury.ca to request camps. In your email, please reference your child’s name, the camp you wish them to attend and the weeks you would like them to attend. A Children Services representative will then contact you to complete intake and determine eligibility.

3. Complete intake appointment and registration:

Once your application is received, you will be scheduled for an intake appointment with a Children Services representative. If all required documentation has been received (or is already on file for current clients), the representative will determine your eligibility, communicate with the camp provider and get you registered with the camp. They will also provide a subsidy approval letter.

Note: Camps fill quickly so it is recommended you apply for fee subsidy as soon as possible. Most camp registrations are open by the end of March each year.

Children with Exceptional Needs

Summer recreational programs provide inclusive, welcoming environments and strive to meet the needs of children in their programs. Some children's needs may require more specialized programs or support through respite or other funding. Contact the Children's Community Network or other service providers that are involved with your child to find out about other summer options for your child.
