World Autism Awareness Day 2023

World Autism Awareness Day 2023

Celebrate the Spectrum on World Autism Awareness Day

On April 2, 2023, the City of Greater Sudbury’s Children Services division and our Child Care and Early Learning partners will join Autism Ontario to recognize and celebrate World Autism Awareness Day. Our sector in Greater Sudbury supports children with autism and their families through the Inclusion Support program in licensed childcare centres and EarlyON centres through our partnering organization of Child and Community Resources.

Autism Ontario’s theme, representing its World Autism Awareness Day events and activities, is “Celebrate the Spectrum.”

Celebrate the Spectrum is an opportunity for positive action, to provide spaces of support and advocacy for our diverse communities while learning about autism and how we can all make our communities better and more inclusive places for people on the autism spectrum.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects more than 135,000 Ontarians. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder affecting one in every 66 Canadian children, as well as their friends, family and community. Approximately one to two per cent of the Canadian population is on the autism spectrum.

Autism Ontario and its chapters share common goals of providing information and education, supporting research and advocating for programs and services for the autism community. It is also dedicated to increasing public awareness about autism and the day-to-day issues faced by individuals with autism, their families and the professionals with whom they interact.

Please join us as we Celebrate the Spectrum in Greater Sudbury and across the province on World Autism Awareness Day and throughout the month of April.
