PSA - Update: Ongoing Significant Weather Event
Mar 23, 2026
As the City remains under a Significant Weather Event, the situation continues to evolve as all available resources remain fully deployed to complete critical work as quickly as possible. Below is the most up-to-date information on ongoing efforts and impacts to municipal services.
Current Snow Clearing Priorities
With access now restored for residents via at least one cleared lane on all roads and laneways, the City is prioritizing snow clearing efforts to support student safety and transportation.
In collaboration with all four school boards and the Sudbury Student Services Consortium, additional clearing and road widening has been completed in school zones, with work ongoing in key areas identified by the Consortium to support the resumption of bus services. Crews are also actively clearing sidewalks along priority student walking routes.
City-wide road widening, sidewalk clearing, and snowbank shaving are ongoing, with priority given to areas that maximize safety and mobility.
Roadside Waste Collection and Landfill Sites
Roadside waste collection is suspended this week and will resume the week of March 30. Temporary increased limits will be in place for both residential and non-residential properties. Details can be found online on the Waste Wise website or the WasteWise App.
The Sudbury, Azilda and Hammer landfill sites as well as the recycling center are now open to all commercial customers and will open for residential access on Thursday, March 26.
All regular tipping and gate fees will be in effect. To reduce wait times, residents are encouraged to hold their waste until roadside collection resumes the week of March 30.
Parking Ban
The City’s 24/7 roadside parking ban remains in effect until the Significant Weather Event is lifted. Vehicles impeding snow removal may be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. Bylaw Enforcement Officers will make reasonable efforts to contact vehicle owners before taking enforcement action.
GOVA Transit
All GOVA Transit routes and GOVA Zone have resumed service, with the exception of Route 25. Due to limited space on some roads, several routes continue to operate on detours. For route details and schedules, visit the GOVA webpage or the MyBus App.
