The City of Greater Sudbury has declared a State of Emergency based on current flooding conditions and projections from Conservation Sudbury.
This is a precautionary step to ensure the City is fully prepared if conditions worsen. It allows for a rapid response, improved coordination of resources, and effective support for residents, including readiness to carry out localized evacuations if required and provide assistance at safe locations.
The declaration also strengthens the City’s ability to coordinate volunteers supporting response efforts, such as sandbagging, assisting at reception centres, and distributing essential supplies. It enables faster decision-making and helps manage access to affected areas where restrictions may be necessary to protect public safety and support emergency operations.
At this time, this is a proactive measure. However, conditions can change quickly, particularly with warmer temperatures ahead. Residents are encouraged to stay informed, be prepared, and follow all public safety guidance.
