Oct 22, 2025

The Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC) continues to play a pivotal role in shaping a vibrant, inclusive and economically resilient city. The GSDC’s 2024 annual report was presented to City Council on October 21, 2025, highlighting a year of strategic investments, strong partnerships and community support.

“The momentum we’ve built is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together with a shared vision and purpose,” said Richard Picard, Chair of the GSDC. “We’re proud to support projects that spark innovation, celebrate diversity and strengthen our economy. Together with Council and our community partners, we’re building a city full of opportunity and excitement.”

In 2024, the GSDC invested more than $1 million through the Community Economic Development Fund (CED), supporting initiatives such as Cambrian College’s animation pilot program, the Afro Women and Youth Foundation, and Greater Sudbury Airport’s air service development projects. These investments leveraged more than $2.4 million in additional funding.

Through the Arts and Culture Grant Program, 44 organizations were supported with more than $600,000 in funding, contributing to over $7 million in economic impact. The Tourism Development Fund (TDF) approved more than $3.3 million in funding across 21 projects, including major investments in Science North, YES Theatre and the Up Here Festival.

“As we build a city where people want to live, work and play, the GSDC has been instrumental in turning vision into action and supporting the community,” said Mayor Paul Lefebvre. “These are investments that make a real difference in people’s lives, strengthening our local economy, creating opportunities, and improving our quality of life. From talent attraction to downtown revitalization, the board’s leadership is helping shape a vibrant and resilient Greater Sudbury. I look forward to the continued collaboration between Council, staff and the Board.”
