City Offers More Day Camp Programs This Summer
May 1, 2025
The City of Greater Sudbury has made some changes to its day camp programs for this summer, and many spaces are still available.
Two week-long specialty camps have been added for children between the ages of 10 and 12. Programming times are between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at Minnow Lake Place (1127 Bancroft Dr.). These new camps aim to provide older children with a more tailored, engaging and supportive experience that aligns with their developmental needs and interests.
• The Sports camp is being offered the week of July 14 to 18. This camp is designed to keep kids active and engaged with a variety of sports and fun activities. From soccer to basketball to relay races and team-building games, there is something for everyone. Our experienced camp counsellors focus on skill development, teamwork and sportsmanship in a supportive and energetic environment. Community groups lending their expertise to this camp include the Sudbury Five, Nickel District Cricket Club, the Baseball Academy, Sudbury Disc Golf Club, Sudbury Smashers Table Tennis Club, and Greater Sudbury Soccer Club. There will also be an excursion to the Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre in Hanmer.
• The Arts and Culture camp is being offered the week of August 11 to 15. This camp includes activities such as painting, sculpture, drama, music and dance. Kids will have the opportunity to express themselves, learn new skills and appreciate different cultures through hands-on projects and interactive sessions. Among the community groups lending their expertise to this camp is local artist Katie Fenerty. There will also be an excursion to the Anderson Farm Museum in Lively.
Neighbourhood Playgrounds and Super Sites
The City continues to offer day camps at sites throughout the community. This year, in addition to 15 neighbourhood playground locations, two super sites have been added that will accommodate up to 90 children in one location. These super sites are located at Minnow Lake Place on Bancroft Drive in Sudbury and École Jean-Paul II in Val Caron. This new super site model allows for enhanced supervision, grouping children of similar age and more efficient use of resources. Bilingual programming will be offered at day camp locations in Hanmer, Chelmsford, Val Caron and New Sudbury.
Camp Sudaca
Camp Sudaca is a unique day camp experience offered in one-week sessions from July 2 to August 29. Busing is available from different locations throughout Greater Sudbury. Energetic staff are ready to offer a great experience, with activities such as kayaking, canoeing, swimming, archery, biking, theme days, rock wall, visits from different community members and more.
