Yesterday, Boat 22 was officially delivered to its new home at Wahnapitae First Nation. The vessel, a 2005 Connor Industries Stanley Hull, previously served as a rescue boat on Lake Wanapitei for many years before being decommissioned in 2020 when it was determined to no longer be suitable for water-rescue operations.

City staff have been working to make updates to the DMP based on resident feedback from previous events and were pleased to share the results with the community.

The City of Greater Sudbury’s Planning Services department is hosting two public open houses virtually to review changes to the Official Plan and Zoning By-law in support of the Employment Land Strategy. The open houses will take place on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 2 to 3:30 p.m.

City and contract crews are ready for winter. Weather conditions are closely monitored by municipal staff around-the-clock, seven days a week, using a customized weather service, Ontario Ministry of Transportation highway reports and data generated from local remote weather stations.

Residents are reminded to apply for the 2025 Older Adult Property Tax Assistance Credit before the December 31, 2025 deadline. This tax rebate is available to eligible older adults who own their own home.

Starting January 1, 2026, the management of the residential Blue Box recycling program will transfer from the City of Greater Sudbury to producers of Blue Box materials. This change is required under new provincial legislation.

Greater Sudbury City Council approved the 2026 municipal budget on December 3, 2025, achieving a reduction of nearly 2 per cent from the tax levy increase originally tabled on November 4. The budget includes targeted investments in infrastructure, public safety and employee well-being.

The City of Greater Sudbury invites residents to attend upcoming drop-in sessions to view the newly-updated Downtown Master Plan (DMP) on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. Residents can attend either of the two drop-in sessions hosted in the Studio Desjardins of Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury.

The City of Greater Sudbury, through the 2025 Greater Sudbury Arts and Culture Grant program, awarded grants to 37 recipient projects and organizations. In total, $587,577 was invested in support of Greater Sudbury’s creative and cultural industry.

At Monday’s Community and Emergency Services Committee meeting, General Manager of Community Well-being Tyler Campbell provided the committee with an update on the impact of the Community Paramedicine program, highlighting that wellness clinics in community housing are successfully reducing reliance on emergency services while improving access to healthcare for residents facing barriers.

The City of Greater Sudbury is undertaking a second round of community engagement to help complete its updated French Language Services Policy. This phase of consultation will gather feedback on the draft revised policy (first presented to City Council in 2024) in order to prepare a final version for Council’s consideration in March 2026.

As preparations advance for construction of the new downtown Event Centre, several changes to parking operations — including adjusted rates, lot closures and the introduction of new parking areas — will take effect before the end of the year.
