Jun 18, 2019

Greater Sudbury residents are invited to share their comments at an upcoming Special Planning Committee meeting, as part of Phase 2 of the City’s Official Plan (OP) Review.

Phase 2 of the OP Review focuses on water/wastewater, economic development and transportation needs throughout Greater Sudbury. Comments in each of these areas, as well as general comments, will be considered prior to the completion of the OP.

Phase 1 of the OP Review focused on growth and settlement; lake water quality; source water protection; climate change; planning for an aging population; local food systems and natural and built heritage. Phase 1 of the Review was approved by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing on April 26, 2019. Municipalities are required to review their Official Plan every five years.

Those interested in making a presentation are asked to attend in person on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at 1 p.m., in the Council Chamber of Tom Davies Square, located at 200 Brady St.

Written comments will be accepted online at overtoyou.greatersudbury.ca until the process to adopt proposed amendment is complete. Paper copies of the comment form are available at Citizen Service Centres and libraries. Comments can be mailed to the City of Greater Sudbury Community and Strategic Planning section by mail at Box 5000, Station A, 200 Brady St., Sudbury, P3A 5P3, or by email to officialplan@greatersudbury.ca.

About the Official Plan (OP):

The OP is a blueprint to help guide Greater Sudbury’s development over the next 20 years. It establishes long-term goals, shapes policies and outlines social, economic, natural and built environment strategies for our city. It guides municipal decision-making on important issues that affect the daily life of every City of Greater Sudbury resident. From the location of schools and other community facilities, to the development of residential, commercial and industrial areas, these decisions shape the future of our community.
