City of Greater Sudbury Holiday Hours

Tom Davies Square will close for the holidays on December 25, 26 and January 1. It will also close at 2 p.m. on December 24 and December 31.

Landfills and the Recycling Centre will close December 25 and January 1. Those who receive waste collection on Thursdays will be serviced on Saturday, December 27 and Saturday, January 3. Please make sure your waste is at the curb in approved containers by 7:00 a.m. Household waste collection services will be provided on Boxing Day. All landfill sites and the Recycling Centre will be open on December 26. For more information, please call City Services at 3-1-1.

Natural Christmas trees will be collected and composted as part of the year-round leaf and yard trimmings collection.  Please remove all decorations, tinsel and lights.  Place your tree at your curb by 7 a.m. on your regular collection day.  Christmas trees wrapped in plastic will not be collected.

Greater Sudbury Library Branches and Citizen Service Centres will close December 25, 26, and January 1. All Greater Sudbury Library Branches and Citizen Service Centres will be open on December 24 and 31 and times vary by location. Holiday Hours of Operation for Library locations can be found at

The Queen’s Athletic Skating Oval and the Ramsey Lake Skate Path are also temporarily closed due to inclement weather. The City will issue updates as soon as conditions change. Please visit for updates.

Greater Sudbury Transit will not operate on December 25. Transit will run on the Saturday Service Schedule on December 26 and January 1. Free Transit rides will be available New Year’s Eve from 10:15 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Route information can be found at

Greater Sudbury Transit will operate on Boxing Day on a Saturday schedule from 5 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.
