SkateShare Program

The City of Greater Sudbury is excited to launch SkateShare Sudbury, a new recreation pilot program offering free skate rentals to residents of all ages and skill levels at Queen’s Athletic Skating Oval.

Experience the joy of winter with our outdoor skating program! It’s a free and fun way to stay active, connect with nature and enjoy fresh air while building social connections. Outdoor skating enhances well-being and brings the community together - making the colder months something to celebrate!

Hours of Operation

This pilot program will be hosted at Queen’s Athletic Field (see map below) on Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m. beginning January 24, 2026, until mid-March (weather permitting).

Equipment and Safety

A selection of hockey and figure skates, along with helmets in various sizes are available for on-site use only on a first come, first served basis. Waiver and ID are required. Helmets are provided and mandatory for children under the age of 10. Residents should dress according to weather conditions.

This new initiative aims to make the activity accessible to everyone by allowing people to experience skating without needing to invest in equipment. It supports Council’s strategic priority to create a healthier, more vibrant community.

Due to limited parking on site, residents are encouraged to use GOVA Transit: Route #25 West End Local or Route #104 Azilda/Chelmsford (Stop 1190 or 1220 westbound or Stop 1195 eastbound).

There’s a new way to register for leisure programs or book a facility. It’s easy to create an account! If you need help getting started, visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.

The French interface of our new registration system is still under development, however it is important that the City goes live with the new system as the existing registration and facility booking system is no longer supported by the vendor. Residents can still receive this service in French by calling 311 to have a French-speaking operator process bookings or registrations. The French interface will be launched in time for the fall/winter registration period.
