Preschool 1-5 (3 to 5 years)
Preschool 1 is considered the entry level for candidates aged 3 to 5 years old. Please contact one of the five area pools to set up an evaluation to determine if the candidate could start at a higher level.
Preschool 1
With the help of our qualified instructors, these preschoolers will have fun learning to get in and out of the water. We will help them jump into shallow water. They will try floats and glides on their front and their back, and will learn the importance of wearing a Personal Flotation Device. They will also learn to get their face wet and blow bubbles underwater. The City of Greater Sudbury is affiliated with the Lifesaving Society. Prerequisite: Be three years old prior to the first class (only up to five years old).
Preschool 2
These preschoolers will learn to jump into shallow water by themselves, and get in and get out of the pool while wearing a Personal Flotation Device. They will submerge and exhale underwater. The preschoolers will also learn to swim with a buoyant aid; more specifically they will work on moving through the water kicking their feet while on their front and back. Prerequisite: Preschool 1.
Preschool 3
These youngsters will jump into chest-deep water and into deep water wearing a Personal Flotation Device. They will learn to swim distances of five metres on their front and back without an aid. They will also be taught to recover objects from the bottom of the pool in waist-deep water. Prerequisite: Preschool 2.
Preschool 4
Advanced preschoolers will learn to do solo jumps into deeper water, return and exit by themselves. They will learn to support themselves at the surface of the water, open their eyes underwater and recover objects from the bottom in deeper water. They will also be introduced to front crawl wearing a Personal Flotation Device to a distance of five metres. They will also become more comfortable swimming on their front and back for a distance of seven metres. Prerequisite: Preschool 3.
Preschool 5
While wearing a Personal Floatation Device, these youngsters get more adventurous with sideways entries into the pool; treading water for 10 seconds and holding their breath underwater for up to five seconds. They will work on front crawl and back crawl swims of five metres and get introduced to vertical whip kick. Prerequisite: Preschool 4
There’s a new way to register for leisure programs or book a facility. It’s easy to create an account! If you need help getting started, visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.
The French interface of our new registration system is still under development, however it is important that the City goes live with the new system as the existing registration and facility booking system is no longer supported by the vendor. Residents can still receive this service in French by calling 311 to have a French-speaking operator process bookings or registrations. The French interface will be launched in time for the fall/winter registration period.
