What You Can Do About Inflow and Infiltration

There are a few simple things you can do to ensure your property doesn’t contribute to inflow and infiltration.

  1. Disconnect your rain gutter downspouts, weeping tiles and sump pumps from municipal drains to prevent stormwater from emptying into the sanitary sewer system.
  2. Keep the area around downspouts free of blockages, and ensure your home’s downspout is flowing properly towards the storm sewer.
  3. Install a rain barrel under your downspout for a free source of water for outdoor use.
  4. Repair or replace broken sewer pipes on your private property found between your home and the City’s main line.
  5. Participate in the City's Residential Inflow and Infiltration Subsidy Program
