Using the Green Cart will attract bears.
Residential and non-residential roadside waste collection services will be rescheduled. Please do not place garbage, green carts or blue boxes at the roadside, as this may impact road clearing efforts. Alternate pickup dates will be communicated once available. We will provide an update once bulky item collection service has been restored.
Due to the winter storm event, furniture, appliance and electronic collection services are also temporarily suspended. Please do not place these items at the roadside, in laneways or on top of snowbanks, as they may impact snow clearing operations.
New Green Cart requests have also been suspended.
All landfill sites and the Recycling Centre are closed.
Yes, bears and other wildlife are attracted to smelly items, such as food waste. But they will not be more attracted to the food waste if you place it in a Green Cart rather than a garbage bag. In fact, your food waste is better protected in the hard shelled lockable Green Cart than in a garbage bag. Tips to prevent wildlife from getting into garbage and recycling are available on the City’s website.
