Private Waste Collection Services

To support safe and efficient road clearing and widening operations, roadside collection of garbage, Green Cart organics, and Blue Box recyclables will be suspended for the week of March 23. Please do not place any waste at the roadside, in laneways or on snowbanks. 

Roadside collection of garbage, Green Cart organics, and Blue Box recyclables will resume the week of March 30. Upon resumption, temporary increased limits will be in place for both residential and non-residential properties.

Garbage Collection - Weeks of March 30 and April 6: 
Residential properties: up to 4 bags/containers/bundles per residential unit.
Registered Yellow Bag participants: up to 12 yellow bags per registered participant. 

Green Cart and Blue Box  – Week of March 30:
Organic waste exceeding Green Cart capacity may be placed in certified compostable bags and set on top of or beside your Green Cart in a cardboard box or similar small container without a lid (do not place directly on the ground).
 
Extra recyclables may be placed next to your Blue Box in a cardboard box or other box without a lid no larger than a Blue Box.

Yellow Box Recycling Carts – Weeks of March 30 and April 6.
Recyclables that do not fit in your cart may be placed next to your cart in a cardboard box or other box without a lid no larger than a Blue Box.

Landfill sites and Recycling Centre:
The Sudbury, Azilda and Hammer Landfill sites as well as the Recycling Center will open to all commercial customers only beginning Monday, March 23, and will open for residential access on Thursday, March 26

All regular tipping and gate fees will be in effect. Wait times may be longer than usual at landfill sites and residents are encouraged to check the Sudbury Landfill live stream camera  to assess wait times before attending the site.

To reduce wait times, residents are encouraged to hold their waste until roadside collection resumes the week of March 30. Those who do visit the landfill sites are encouraged to support waste diversion efforts by separating their recyclable and compostable wastes. 

The Walden Small Vehicle Transfer Station will resume regular operating hours as of Thursday, March 26.
 
Services Not Yet Resumed: 

The following waste services remain unavailable until further notice:
-Leaf & yard trimming collection
-Furniture, appliance, and electronic collection and pick-up requests
-Requests for new or additional Green Carts
-Toxic Taxi appointments and collection - new appointments available as of Monday, March 30.

Properties with private waste collection services are not permitted to place waste at the roadway or in the laneways at any time. This collection is to take place from private property only. Properties with private waste collection services with bins or carts must keep the lids closed and the waste secured at all times.
