What to do if you get a Sudbury Alerts notification

Periodically, the City will conduct tests of Sudbury Alerts to ensure that it is working properly.

The message you receive will indicate if it is a test. If you are unsure, check our home page or news and public notices web page to see if we are conducting a test of Sudbury Alerts.

If you receive a test notification

  • Do not call 911. Leave the emergency lines open for those who need immediate assistance.
  • Do not call 311. Call Centre lines may quickly become overwhelmed.  Check our home page or news and public notices web page to see if we are conducting a test of Sudbury Alerts.
  • You may be prompted in your notification to confirm that you have received the message. This should keep you from receiving any further  notifications about that test of the system.

If you receive multiple test notifications

If you receive a real emergency notification

  • Listen to the message carefully. Instructions will be given.
  • Do not call 911 unless you require immediate emergency help. If you get an emergency notification regarding a situation in your area, the 911 systems are already aware of the situation and very busy. Leave the lines open for those who may need immediate assistance. Follow the notification instructions.
  • Check our home page and news and public notices web pages as well as our X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook pages for updates. Stay tuned to local media for emergency information and updates.
