Incident Management System (IMS) Training

Ontario has developed an Incident Management System (IMS) that standardizes approaches to emergency management. It guides how personnel, facilities, equipment, procedures and communications may be coordinated during an incident.

Benefits of IMS Training

IMS helps provide coordinated responses between different agencies and response organizations in any incident of any scale, for example wildfires, ice storms or public health emergencies and more.

It is based on the understanding that in every emergency incident there are certain core functions that need to be carried out. You will learn more about these core functions and how emergency responses are managed using internationally recommended practices.

Who should have IMS training?

  • Employees, members, representatives of a ministry, municipality or First Nation.
  • Employees, members or volunteers of a stakeholder group that would be impacted by an event, for example private sector industries, non-government organizations and more.
  • Members of the public are also encouraged to receive IMS training.
