Wait Times for Housing

The length of time before a unit becomes available depends on the unit size and locations you choose.

It may take some time because of the low number of vacancies. The Registry will not be checking your position on the wait list and cannot advise when you will be housed.

What happens while I am waiting for housing?

It's important that you keep your file up to date. You must notify the Housing Registry within thirty calendar days if any of the information you provide in this application changes, for example:

  • You change your address or phone number,
  • You want to live in locations other than those you chose on the application,
  • The number of people in the household changes,
  • Your income changes, or
  • The contact person on the application changes.

At least once within a twelve month period, the Housing Registry will require you to provide updated information in order to remain eligible on the centralized wait list. Correspondence will be sent to you identifying what information/documents will need to be updated. Your name may be removed from the centralized wait list if you cannot be reached.

If you refuse one valid offer, your file will be cancelled, and if you are still interested in community housing you will need to re-apply with a new date of application.

How will I be contacted with an offer?

Provide us with a daytime telephone number so we can contact you when a unit becomes available.

If you cannot be reached during the day, provide us with the telephone number of a contact person who can be reached during the day so they can give you the message.
