Public Notice: Proposed Closure and Sale of a Portion of Alder Street, Sudbury

The City of Greater Sudbury is providing notice under Notice By-law 2012-204 (Sections 13(c), 30, 31, and 32) that Council has approved the intent to permanently close and dispose of a section of Alder Street to the abutting property owner, 2269139 Ontario Inc (the Applicant).
 

Background and Council Direction

On December 8, 2025, Planning Committee adopted Resolution PL2025-162, directing staff to present a by-law to:

  • Close a portion of Alder Street, legally described as part of PIN 73585-1085(LT), and

  • Authorize its sale to the adjacent owner

Council approved this resolution on December 9, 2025.


The by-law will be brought forward once the required reference plan legally describing the affected section of road has been received.


What is Proposed

The Subject Land being a portion of Alder Street located north of Willow Street, south of Victoria Street is proposed to be permanently closed and sold to the Applicant. A sketch showing the affected area is included below.

Access and Travel

If closure proceeds:

  • Travel through this section will no longer be permitted
  • Drivers and pedestrians may use Lorne Street or Regent Street as alternate routes
  • A notification sign will be installed on site in advance of closure
  • Access from Alder Street to the unnamed laneway between Victoria Street and Willow Street will still remain

 

Municipal services

If the closure and sale proceed this section of Alder Street will no longer be maintained by the City. No other changes to snow removal, waste collection or other City services are anticipated as a result of this closure.
