PSA - Update: Ongoing Significant Weather Event

Mar 24, 2026

As progress continues across the city, below is the latest information on current priorities and impacts to municipal services.

Current Snow Clearing Priorities

While the City remains in a Significant Weather Event, all available resources continue to be fully deployed to clear snow as quickly and effectively as possible.

Supporting student safety and transportation remains a top priority. Crews are working to complete clearing and widening of sidewalks and roads as identified by the four school boards and the Sudbury Student Services Consortium to support students walking and taking the bus.

As sidewalk efforts continue, residents may notice completed sections in areas scattered throughout the City. Locations that can be cleared using standard equipment are progressing more quickly, while areas requiring specialized equipment—due to the volume of snow or limited space for snow placement—are taking longer.

City-wide road widening, sidewalk clearing, and snowbank shaving are also ongoing.

Roadside Waste Collection and Landfill Sites

A reminder that residential and non-residential roadside waste collection is suspended this week and will resume the week of March 30 with temporary increased limits. Check the Waste Wise app or online tool to confirm which day and week your address will receive collection.

The Sudbury, Azilda and Hanmer landfill sites will open to residential access on Thursday, March 26 as well as the Walden Small Vehicle Transfer Station. Toxic Taxi will resume service requests on March 30.

Parking Ban and Road Closures

The City’s 24/7 roadside parking ban remains in effect and vehicles impeding snow removal may be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. Bylaw Enforcement Officers will make reasonable efforts to contact vehicle owners before taking enforcement action.

To support snow removal, crews will implement short-term road closures in select areas. Detours will be in place where required to maintain traffic flow.

GOVA Transit

All GOVA Transit routes and GOVA Zone have resumed service. Due to limited space on some roads, several routes continue to operate on detours. For route details and schedules, visit the GOVA webpage or the MyBus App.
