City of Greater Sudbury Launches Recruitment for Full-Time Career Firefighters
Mar 10, 2026
The City of Greater Sudbury is now accepting applications for the full-time career firefighter positions. Greater Sudbury Fire Services reminds potential applicants that this recruitment is a separate and distinct process from the recruitment of volunteer firefighters; candidates interested in full-time employment must apply through this specific career stream.
We are seeking dedicated, high-performing individuals to join our team of over 120 full-time staff, operating out of five full-time fire stations. The role requires working 24-hour shifts, averaging 42 hours per week, and involves a wide range of responsibilities including fire suppression, technical rescues, and medical life support.
All applicants must meet the following minimum criteria at the time of application to remain in the selection process:
- High school graduate (OSSD) or equivalent.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Valid Class "G" Driver's Licence (or equivalent) with a clean abstract.
- Valid Standard First Aid/Level C CPR certificate.
- Canadian Citizen or legal entitlement to work in Canada.
- No criminal offences.
The selection process for career firefighters is a rigorous multi-stage evaluation with an in-person aptitude test, fitness testing, an online interview, comprehensive psychological testing, and a medical assessment. Applicants who are successful in the selection process will be required to complete a mandatory 16-week Training Academy.
Applications must be submitted online at myjobs.greatersudbury.ca. The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026. Applications will not be accepted after this date.
Unlike the volunteer recruitment process, there are no open houses scheduled for the career firefighter recruitment. All necessary information regarding the selection process and required documentation is available in the official Information Package at greatersudbury.ca/live/emergency-services/fire-services/training-and-recruiting/career-firefighters/.
