City of Greater Sudbury Introduces CHIRP Home Retrofit Support Program

Mar 10, 2026

As part of an ongoing effort to support climate-friendly and climate-resilient buildings in Greater Sudbury, the City is introducing a new program called “CHIRP” (Community Home Improvement and Resilience Program). Through this program, residents have access to 1:1 support with finding, understanding and utilizing home retrofit incentive and installation programs available in our city. By helping residents to better access programs that support these retrofits, CHIRP can help Greater Sudbury to lower our emissions and adapt to extreme weather linked to climate change.

Home retrofitting, in the context of climate mitigation and resilience, means upgrading existing buildings to improve their energy efficiency and ability to endure extreme weather due to climate change. Retrofits can include upgrading insulation, installing heat pumps and utilizing storm-resistant design.

CHIRP is one of several ways that the City of Greater Sudbury is actively reducing our climate impact as part of our goals outlined in the Community Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP). This program supports multiple strategy sectors of the CEEP, including Efficient Buildings. CHIRP also supports our City’s goal to become more climate-resilient, as outlined in the Community Climate Change Adaptation Plan (CCCAP).
