The City of Greater Sudbury is pleased to announce the appointment of Tamara Roitman as Deputy Chief of Fire Services.
Following a recruitment process, Ms. Roitman was selected for the role based on her extensive experience in fire operations, training and organizational leadership. She most recently served with Central York Fire Services, where she led training and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) certification programs, co-chaired several committees and contributed to the Critical Incident Stress Management peer support team.
Her previous experience includes serving as a project manager with Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service, where she oversaw projects related to community risk assessments, master planning and resource deployment.
Ms. Roitman has several NFPA and emergency services certifications and has a deep understanding of provincial training and certification pathways. She also has experience managing multi-million-dollar capital projects, including the procurement and development of a fire training tower.
A strong advocate for evidence?based practice, Ms. Roitman integrates fire science research into the design and delivery of operational training programs. She is equally committed to health, safety, wellness and mental health in the fire service, having led and supported initiatives such as critical incident stress management, peer support programming and cancer prevention efforts.
“Deputy Chief Roitman brings extensive expertise and a forward-looking approach to this role,” said Rob Grimwood, Chief of Fire Services with the City of Greater Sudbury. “Her leadership in training, operational excellence and firefighter wellness will be a tremendous asset to our community.”
“I am honoured to join the City of Greater Sudbury and look forward to working with the dedicated team at Greater Sudbury Fire Services,” said Roitman. “My family and I are excited to become part of this community and begin this next chapter.”
