Street sweeping operations will begin the week of April 28 in the Ramsey Lake Watershed, high-risk drainage areas and sidewalks in busy pedestrian zones. Sweeping is expected to expand city-wide by mid-May.|

New Street Sweeping Status Map Now Available

The City of Greater Sudbury has launched a new street sweeping status map that tracks the spring cleanup progress. The interactive map provides projected schedules and regular updates on sweeping progress.

Road sections and neighbourhoods are broken into sweeping zones on the map based on the priority, road type and sweeping crews/equipment being used. These sweeping zones are colour-coded to indicate where work is scheduled to start, those in the process of being cleaned and those where sweeping has been completed. The map will be updated daily as sweeping operations progress throughout the city. Projected start and finish dates provided by the map may change due to weather conditions.

About Spring Street Sweeping
Each spring, crews clean more than 3,000 kilometres of roadway, including sidewalks, bridges, bike lanes, boulevards, medians and walkways. Streets in the Ramsey Lake drinking water source protection area are swept first, followed by main roads in high-traffic and business areas.

Street sweeping is a 24/7 operation in the spring. To help crews work efficiently:
• Avoid overnight on-street parking.
• Remove basketball and hockey nets from the roadway.
• Do not place garbage, recycling or green carts on roads or sidewalks. Instead, place them in a visible area that does not block sweepers.
• Do not put leaves, grass or other debris on roads or sidewalks.
• Sweep sand from your driveway or yard into a thin layer on the road if needed, to avoid clogging equipment.

Some noise and dust are unavoidable during sweeping.

Line painting begins after street sweeping is complete to ensure clean surfaces for optimal paint adhesion and visibility.
