Municipal Service Information for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Sep 29, 2025
The City of Greater Sudbury will recognize Tuesday, September 30, 2025, as a statutory holiday to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day serves to honour residential school survivors, their families and their communities.
To mark the occasion, the Survivors Flag was raised at Tom Davies Square on Monday, September 29. The flag serves as a reminder of the importance of reconciliation, acting as a symbol to honour the memory of the lost children and to acknowledge the ongoing impact of residential schools on Indigenous communities.
Residents are encouraged to attend events and ceremonies marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, to learn more about residential schools, reflect on how we can contribute to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, and recommit to understanding the truth of our shared history. The following municipal services will be closed to the public for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on Tuesday, September 30:
- Tom Davies Square
- Greater Sudbury Public Library branches (including Citizen Service Centres)

The Recycling Centre, landfills and waste transfer sites will be open. Roadside residential waste collection that would normally occur on Tuesday, September 30 will instead take place on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
