Municipal Law Enforcement Officers on Board GOVA Transit

Feb 11, 2025

Beginning this month, Municipal Law Enforcement Officers (MLEOs) will be on board GOVA’s conventional transit system. The goal is to enhance safety by addressing issues that disrupt transit services, as well as tackle fare evasion and the fraudulent use of bus passes.

The introduction of MLEOs will help establish a safe and secure transit environment, as highlighted in the Transit Action Plan and through ongoing feedback from both operators and riders. GOVA Transit's commitment to safety seeks to improve the overall transit experience for the Greater Sudbury community.

Initially, MLEOs will focus on educating riders about transit policies. To further support this effort, GOVA will launch a public education campaign to provide additional information to riders.

This new measure aligns with the City of Greater Sudbury’s Strategic Plan, specifically Goal 1.5: Demonstrate Innovation and Cost-Effective Service Delivery. By expanding ridership through innovative and responsive system improvements, GOVA Transit continues to strive for asset management and service excellence.
