An extended heat warning issued by Environment Canada has activated the municipal Hot Weather Response Plan.
The City of Greater Sudbury has extended the hours of lifeguard supervision at six municipal beaches until 9 p.m. this evening, Monday, August 11.
The City of Greater Sudbury operates seven public beaches at the following locations:
- Bell Park Main Beach on Ramsey Lake in Sudbury.
- A floating wheelchair may be reserved free of charge at this location by calling 705-674-9116.
- Capreol Public Beach on Marshy Lake in Capreol
- Kalmo Beach on Whitson Lake in Val Caron
- Moonlight Beach on Ramsey Lake in Sudbury
- Nepahwin Beach on Nepahwin Lake in Sudbury
- Whitewater Lake Park on Whitewater Lake in Azilda
- Centennial Beach on Vermillion River in Whitefish.

The following libraries and citizen service centres will be available as cooling centres from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m (UPDATED AUGUST 12):
- Main Library
- Chelmsford Library and Citizen Service Centre
- South End Public Library
- Lively Library and Citizen Service Centre
- Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre

The following community centres are open as cooling centres today; closing times vary by location.
- Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex – open until 11 p.m.
- McClelland Community Centre and Arena (Copper Cliff) – open until 9 p.m.
- T.M. Davies Community Centre and Arena (Lively) – open until 9 p.m.

The City’s 15 splash pads are open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visit greatersudbury.ca/splashpads for locations.
All GOVA and GOVA Plus buses in service are equipped with air conditioning to ensure safe travel. A water fountain with a bottle refilling station is available at the GOVA Transit terminal downtown.
A cooling centre at 24 Energy Court is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., operated by the Go-Give Project. Client Navigators from the Homelessness Team will be distributing water to vulnerable residents today.
