Downtown Redevelopment Advances with Final Demolition on Shaughnessy Street

Jul 15, 2025

Mobilization and preparation for the demolition of the building located at 187 Shaughnessy Street — formerly Wacky Wings — will begin Wednesday, July 16, 2025. This will mark the final demolition of properties acquired by the City to support redevelopment efforts in the downtown.

The site is part of a series of properties purchased through a historic investment by the City to drive downtown revitalization, support economic development and advance Council’s broader strategic goals.

To ensure public safety during the demolition, the parking lot south of the building — commonly known as the Wacky Wings parking lot — and a fenced-off area to the north of the building — formerly the parking lot adjacent to Golden Grain — will be temporarily inaccessible. These areas will serve as safety buffers and staging zones for equipment and waste bins. Pedestrians are asked to follow posted signage and use the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street where necessary.

In alignment with the City’s commitment to sustainability, demolition materials will be sorted on-site to maximize recycling and reduce landfill waste, following the same process used in earlier phases of the project.

The demolition is expected to be complete within four to six weeks.
