Council and Committee Meetings Relocating During Cultural Hub Construction

Sep 10, 2025

Effective October 20, 2025, all City of Greater Sudbury Council and Committee meetings will be held at the Lionel E. Lalonde (LEL) Centre, located at 239 Montée Principale, Azilda. This temporary relocation is necessary to accommodate construction of Greater Sudbury’s new Cultural Hub, which is set to begin this fall.

The Cultural Hub project will bring together key cultural and community services in one modern, centralized and accessible location.

The LEL Centre was carefully selected as the temporary location for Council and Committee meetings based on several key criteria. The facility offers fully accessible amenities, ample free parking and seamless connectivity to the City’s internal network infrastructure, ensuring continued access to essential services.

Additional considerations included:
•    on-site security
•    access to public transit — GOVA Transit Route 104 Azilda–Chelmsford has been modified to travel along Montée Principale
•    proximity to the downtown core — the LEL Centre is located just 15 kilometres away.

Members of the public will continue to have the option to attend meetings in person at the new location or view them online via livestream at greatersudbury.ca/agendas.
Every effort is being made to ensure uninterrupted access to essential municipal services throughout the Cultural Hub construction period. While some services are temporarily relocating, the majority will continue to operate from Tom Davies Square as usual.

About the Cultural Hub

The Cultural Hub project includes retrofitting 200 Brady St. and 199 Larch St. to house a new Central Library, the Art Gallery of Sudbury, and the Sudbury Multicultural and Folk Arts Association. This initiative represents a significant investment in downtown revitalization, supporting accessibility, environmental sustainability, multiculturalism, social inclusion and cultural enrichment.
