About the Employment Land Strategy
In August 2022, Council approved the Employment Land Strategy to foster economic growth and support a diversified economy for Greater Sudbury’s future. Employment land refers to areas that are designated for economic activity, rather than residential use. The strategy will ensure that the City is well positioned to respond to employment land needs by considering future trends, projected demand, land supply, municipal services, incentives and other tools to support future growth and economic changes.
The strategy included recommendations regarding the Official Plan and Zoning Bylaw and suggested further review of these documents. The key goals of the review are to modernize the City’s Official Plan and Zoning Bylaw and enable future commercial and industrial development.
The Employment Land Strategy links planning, infrastructure and economic development to ensure that the City has an adequate supply of serviced employment land, and policy and incentive frameworks in place to stimulate investment, development and job creation.
