2025 Holiday Municipal Service Schedule

Green Cart, Recycling and Garbage Collection: 

Landfills, transfer stations and the Recycling Centre will be closed on December 25 and January 1 but will be open on December 26. Residential waste collection that would normally occur on Thursday, December 25, will instead take place on Saturday, December 27, and waste collection that would normally occur on Thursday, January 1, will instead take place on Saturday, January 3. Waste collection on Friday, December 26 (Boxing Day) is unaffected. Always ensure your waste is at the roadside no later than 7 a.m. 

Residents may place natural Christmas trees at the roadside for collection and composting, as part of their every other week Leaf and Yard Trimmings stream. Trees must be bare of decorations, lights, stands and may not be wrapped in plastic.

GOVA Transit Services: 

GOVA Transit schedules will vary through the holidays: 

  • December 24 – Service ends early 

  • December 25 – No service 

  • December 26 – Saturday/Sunday service schedule 

  • December 31 – Extended hours and free service after 10 p.m. 

  • January 1 – Holiday service schedule

Municipal Facilities: 

Tom Davies Square will be closed on December 25, December 26 and January 1. All municipal facilities will close at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 31. =

All Greater Sudbury Public Library branches (including Citizen Service Centres) will close at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 31. All branches will be open for at least 4 hours on those days. Branches will be closed on December 25, December 26, and January 1. For more details, visit www.sudburylibraries.ca

Greater Sudbury Museums Services will be closed December 25 and 26, and January 1. From Monday, December 22, through Friday, January 2, the Anderson Farm Museum will be closed. Museum Services staff will still be available during this time and can be contacted by email at museums@greatersudbury.ca or by phone at 705-674-4455 x3966. 

The Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter will be closed December 25, December 26, and January 1. 

Greater Sudbury fitness facilities and pools will be closed on December 25, December 26 and January 1, and will close at 2 p.m. December 24 and 31. Additional holiday hours may vary by location. Please visit www.greatersudbury.ca/play/recreational-facilities/ for facility and program hours.

City social media accounts are not monitored regularly during weekends and statutory holidays.
