Work on Sudbury Landfill Scales Extended Until Fall

Jul 31, 2024

Rehabilitation work on the Sudbury Landfill scales is progressing. Repairs on the first scale have been completed and repairs are currently underway on the second scale. The estimated repair timeline has been extended from July 31 to September/October 2024. These repairs will ensure continued landfill service delivery.

During this time, the Sudbury Landfill will continue to run as a single-scale operation. Vehicles coming into and exiting the landfill will be weighed in and out on the same scale.

Residents can expect longer than usual wait times at the Sudbury Landfill while repairs are taking place.

What you can do to avoid longer wait times:

How to avoid landfill visits:

Individual producer responsibility programs:

There are several locations in Greater Sudbury where residents can drop off certain materials for recycling at no charge:

Reuse and recycle:

  • Blue Box materials can be dropped off at the recycling depot on Frobisher Street, at no charge.
  • Clothes, household items, furniture, appliances and scrap metal can be donated to local organizations or businesses that accept these items.
  • Scrap yards may pay for used metal items.
  • Items in reusable condition can be given away or sold through various platforms, garage sales, friends and family, or simply placed in your yard with a “free” sign attached.
  • Although not exhaustive, some reuse organization locations can be found on our How to Reduce Waste page.
