Residents Invited to Participate in Public Meeting on Official Plan Amendment

Jun 14, 2024

A public hearing will take place at 1 p.m. on June 24 in the Council Chamber at Tom Davies Square to give residents the opportunity to address Council members regarding the proposed Official Plan (OP) amendment relating to the Nodes and Corridors Strategy.

The proposed amendment includes changes that:

  • focus high and medium density land uses, including apartments and buildings that include a mix of commercial, retail and office spaces to the city’s main arterial roads, and
  • focus lower residential densities to nearby neighbourhoods.

The proposed changes will ensure future developments complement transit and strategies for active transportation, like walking and cycling, and will help contribute to communities where essential amenities are easily accessible.

The Nodes and Corridors Strategy was adopted in September 2016 to help revitalize and better connect our downtown, the town centres, strategic core areas and corridors of the city. The strategy integrates land use, zoning regulations, urban design and transportation planning to create a greater sense of place and to design a more complete street to encourage multiple modes of travel.

To participate in the public hearing, pre-register by contacting Clerk’s Services at 705-674-4455, extension 4209 or by emailing clerks@greatersudbury.ca. Speakers may also register at the public meeting. Presenters will receive five minutes to address the committee and will be heard in the order they appear on the speakers list.

The report relating to the proposed amendment, is available at greatersudbury.ca/agendas.
