GOVA Transit Improving Bus Stops
Jun 25, 2024
GOVA Transit is working toward improving the customer experience. Changes are coming to all 1,090 City bus stops this summer.
The City has worked with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) and the Accessibility Advisory Panel to come up with a standard colour, size and look for the stops. The aim is to improve access to service for residents with vision impairment.
Bus stop numbers will be larger, and each stop will have a QR code directing passengers to the My Bus app (allows you to track buses in real time), a trip planner, route maps and schedules and other GOVA-related information. Customers can also use the QR code to view advisories which may affect their travel, such as detours or service updates.
The QR code is another tool to assist customers – they can also call 311 or visit the Transit kiosk with questions or for more information.
This project aligns with the City of Greater Sudbury Strategic Plan with commitment to Asset Management and Service Excellence, and continued efforts to expand ridership through innovative and responsive system improvements. The project is supported by funding through the Public Transit Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) and annual operating budgets.
Work on bus stops is already underway and expected to be complete by fall 2024.
