City's General Manager of Community Development Taking on New Role at Region of Peel
Jul 10, 2024
Steve Jacques, General Manager of Community Development, is leaving the City of Greater Sudbury to take on a new leadership opportunity with the Region of Peel. His last day with the City will be August 9, 2024.
“Steve has made important contributions to the City of Greater Sudbury’s success during the five years he spent with us,” said City of Greater Sudbury Chief Administrative Officer Ed Archer. “On behalf of the corporation, I thank him for his collaboration and leadership. I wish him every success in his new role as Commissioner of Human Services with the Region of Peel.”
Several significant Community Development initiatives were undertaken during Steve’s tenure:
- The City implemented a compassionate and outcome-oriented response to encampments, resulting in effective service coordination with community groups and leveraging of provincial funds to support service efforts.
- GOVA Transit introduced improvements that significantly increased ridership as part of the Transit Action Plan.
- A successful plan was implemented – and is now underway – for bed redevelopment and expansion at Pioneer Manor.
- Important steps were taken to advance social housing, including identifying a location, securing capital funding and developing a community engagement plan for establishing transitional housing services.
An interim General Manager of Community Development will be in place shortly, and a process to hire a permanent replacement will be conducted following a review of the role and its responsibilities.
