City Recognizes OLG for Community Recognition Program Funding
May 23, 2024
Today, the City of Greater Sudbury thanked the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for its ongoing support during a cheque presentation at the New Sudbury branch of the Greater Sudbury Public Library.
Greater Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre and Chief Administrative Officer Ed Archer were on hand to accept the cheque for the 2023 fiscal year. From April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024, the City received $1,826,656 from revenues generated by Gateway Casinos Sudbury. A portion of these funds was allocated to enhancing accessibility at the New Sudbury library with the construction of new sidewalks and ramps.
“I’d like to extend our thanks to the OLG for their continued contributions to our community,” said Mayor Lefebvre. “Their substantial support throughout the years amplifies our capacity to address community needs by funding crucial enhancements to our local infrastructure and supporting growth in our city. OLG plays an important role in propelling our community forward, and I look forward to a lasting partnership."
Annual contributions from OLG are placed in the City’s general revenue accounts and are invested into capital projects, including roads and facility refurbishments. Since November 1999, Greater Sudbury has received nearly $49.7 million in non-tax gaming revenue from OLG.
"OLG takes pride in its role within Greater Sudbury for more than two decades, and we are fully committed to furthering this support,” said Kathleen Devine, OLG’s Senior Municipal Relations Manager of Government and Stakeholder Relations. “Every year, 100 per cent of OLG's profits are reinvested in Ontario to build stronger communities by supporting essential infrastructure, local initiatives, community celebrations and more. We recognize the dedication of Gateway Casinos staff for their contributions to enhancing life in Greater Sudbury and across Ontario.”
OLG’s Community Recognition Program funding payments are made under an equitable formula in the Municipality Contribution Agreement which determines the funds municipalities receive for hosting an OLG gaming facility. Payments are based on an escalating scale of gaming revenue consistent across all sites in Ontario.
