44 Organizations Benefit from Grants to Support Local Arts and Culture

Dec 4, 2024

The City of Greater Sudbury, through the 2024 Greater Sudbury Arts and Culture Grant Program, awarded $605,299 to 44 recipients in support of the artistic, cultural and creative projects and organizations.

"Our community continues to shine as a northern hub for arts and cultural excellence," said Greater Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre. "This vibrant sector is a cornerstone of our local economy, fostering community pride, attracting visitors, and showcasing the incredible talent that calls Greater Sudbury home. Investments through the Arts and Culture Grant Program enrich the lives of our residents, create memorable experiences for visitors, and play a vital role in retaining and nurturing local talent, ensuring our creative community continues to thrive."

Established in 2005, the City of Greater Sudbury’s Arts and Culture Grant Program stimulates the growth and development of this important sector, increases its potential to attract and retain a talented and creative workforce, and is an investment in the quality of life for all residents. The program is administered by the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC), which has approved nearly $8 million in funding to over 160 local arts and culture organizations. This investment has led to the employment of more than 200 artists, the hosting of hundreds of festivals and an estimated overall return of $9.41 for every $1 spent.

“The Greater Sudbury Development Corporation is proud to provide funding support through the Arts and Culture Grant Program,” said GSDC Board Chair, Jeff Portelance. “We recognize the significance of investing in the cultural sector. It not only drives economic growth, but also creates a strong sense of community engagement, pride and cultural expression”.
