Online Portal Allows for Faster and More Convenient Building Permit Process

Applying for building permits is getting easier with the launch of Pronto. This new, online portal will be available beginning June 27, 2023.

Residents and businesses can fill out their building permit application online, and digitally attach and submit plans and drawings, eliminating the requirement for multiple in-person visits and allowing for a faster and more convenient service.

“The Pronto online portal aligns with Council’s priorities to improve service and ensure transparency of development processes at the City of Greater Sudbury,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre. “Offering this new option to residential and business clients enhances our commitment to fostering economic growth and investment. I look forward to its launch, and to future portal enhancements in support of community growth.”

Pronto allows applicants to track their permit application from beginning to end. If more information is required, the applicant will receive an email or follow-up phone call to ensure an efficient and timely application process.

Pronto includes online services, such as: 

• Submitting a building permit application online;
• Uploading building permit documents, such as drawings, plot plans and supplementary documents;
• Viewing details related to the processing status of building permit applications;
• Viewing application fees;
• Viewing inspections and related details associated to an application.

The City will continue to accept applications in-person at the Tom Davies Square One Stop Services counter. Applicants can call 311 or visit in-person to receive help using the system. Online tutorials are also available on the City’s website. 

“This is one action in a larger plan to streamline the building and development application process,” said Ed Archer, Chief Administrative Officer at the City of Greater Sudbury. “Together with new policies and strategies, such as revised Community Improvement Plans and the Employment Lands Strategy, Pronto is building our capacity to support growth and seize opportunities for investment into our community.”

Future planned enhancements for Pronto include scheduling inspections, accessing historical property permit information, processing online payments and submitting planning services applications.
