Nominations Open for 2022 Municipal and School Board Elections

The nomination period for the offices of Mayor, Ward Councillor and School Board Trustee is now open. Candidates must file their nominations in person by 2 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022.

To qualify for nomination, a candidate must meet all of the required conditions.

Candidates for the Office of Mayor or Ward Councillor must:

  • be a resident of the municipality, a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality, or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant;
  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • be at least 18 years of age;
  • not be legally prohibited from voting; and
  • not be disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.

Candidates for School Board Trustee must:

  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • be at least 18 years of age;
  • be a resident within the District School Board's area of jurisdiction; and
  • be qualified to vote for members of that District School Board.

Those who meet all requirements and wish to campaign for office must first file a Nomination Paper with the Clerk of the City of Greater Sudbury, along with an Endorsement of Nomination form containing the signatures of 25 voters who are eligible to vote in the Greater Sudbury election. Individuals who endorse candidates will be required to sign a declaration stating that they meet voter eligibility requirements on the day the endorsement is signed.

 

Nomination Papers, Endorsement of Nomination forms and the required nomination fee must be filed in person at the One-Stop Services area, located on the main floor of Tom Davies Square, by 2 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022.

Registration of third parties for the Municipal and School Board Elections also open today and will be accepted by the Clerk of the City of Greater Sudbury until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022. For more  information on third parties, visit www.greatersudbury.ca/elections/for-third-parties.
