Statement from the Mayor – November 19th, 2021

Nov 19, 2021

In recent weeks and days, I have been saddened by the growing number of COVID-related fatalities in our community and I would like to extend my condolences to the families of each individual during this extremely difficult time.

While our city enjoys a high vaccination rate alongside the rest of the province, we might assume that COVID-19 is behind us. However, a growing surge in positive cases and our most recent losses are a grave reminder that this virus still has an impact on our community and people.

As our case numbers continue to climb, I ask each and every one of you to refocus on stopping the spread of COVID-19 and please follow the additional measures put in place by the Medical Officer of Health. Be mindful of reduced capacity limits and physical distancing requirements, wear a mask at indoor and outdoor public events, minimize your outings and get vaccinated.

I know this will be difficult, but as we approach the holiday season it is a necessary, short-term measure to reduce the risk and ensure we can all gather safely around our loved ones.

Thank you for your commitment to doing your part. I am confident that if we all work together, we can once again return to eased restrictions alongside the rest of the province.

Stay safe and stay strong, Greater Sudbury.
